is it okay to feed my comet goldfish tropical fish flake food?

The people at the petstore told me that they feed their goldfish tropical fish flake food. I thought they were supposed to eat flake food that is made specifically for goldfish. Is it okay to feed them the tropical fish food or the goldfish food. Does it really matter?

Yes it is, BUT you must look for a food with out corn in it. Usually tropical fish food is better quality than many goldfish foods available. A good food is hard to find. You want plenty of seafood like whole fish meal, and krill, and some spirolina in it too. You want protien about 30% and fat around 10%. Look for that and don't worry about if its tropical or goldfish food. Corn indicated the food is full of cheap filler and is low quality. Also named as corn guten meal, or gluten meal. Avoid corn it causes digestive problems and floating.

vals are a pain — if you don't feed them they look anemic — if you do feed them they take over your tank. enjoy.

what supplies do i need to start a saltwater fish tank?

I have a fresh water tank but know i want a saltwater tank i cleaned out the tank and scrubbed it but what supplies do i need now so that i can make it a salt water tank.
In the tank i want corals and fish.

You will need
Aquarium substrate such as live sand or crushed coral

Live Rock -2 pounds or more per gallon for reef tank setup

Saltwater Mix
Saltwater Hydrometer or even better a refractometer

Aquarium filter (not absolutely necessary if running with adequate amounts of live rock, but nice to have if you need to use a mechanical filter or activated carbon, etc.)

Replacement filter media like filter floss and activated carbon (if you get a filter)
Multiple Powerheads (2 or 3)

Heater -

Protein Skimmer
Saltwater test kit(s) to test water parameters and monitor the infamous aquarium nitrogen cycle

Aquarium vacuum

Aquarium Glass Scrubber or make your own DIY Algae Scraper

Two, clean, never used before, 5-gallon buckets
Aquarium thermometer

Brush with plastic bristles (old tooth brush) - needed for cleaning the live rock

Quarantine Tank for acclimating new arrivals and monitoring for signs of fish disease

Optional but definitely recommend getting a Reverse Osmosis or RO/Deionization filter for the make-up water.

What should you have for a 110 gllons fish tank ?

The item for the fish and the tank supplies?

To run a sucessful tank you have many factors to think about that will effect what you need to buy.

The basics are filter, light, gravel, gravel cleaner, water conditioner. If it's to be salt water you will need more but i don't know personally.

When choosing what filter you need there are a few simple rules 1. Over filtration is better than underfiltration 2. You will need biological filtration and mechanical most. For a 110 gal tank i would recomend buying a filter with at least 150 gal capactity or around 400 gal/hour. Canister type filters are better but cost more. If you get a cheaper hang on back filter make sure it has a bio wheel as this will help later on.

Next you need to decide how you want to decorate it. Plants are an essencial for aquariums. Fake are cheap and look it compared to live plants. Live plants will require more light and better substrate (the ground covering material).

For substrate go with simple gravel for plastic plants, go with sand and fertilizer for live plants.

For a gravel cleaner you can buy a simple gravel siphon at any pet store or you can get on that will work through a canister filter (one of their pluses as no need to add water after a cleaning.)

You will also need various chemicals like start right to condition your water to remove chlorine.

Once set up you will need to cycle your tank. Fishless cycling is best and to start this you need to add ammonia, then wait about 2 weeks and have your water tested. Buying your own testing supplies is also great to have so you can identify a problem early enough to rectify it. Get liqid not strips.

There is a lot more you will need to know so email me if you have any additional details about what you want to do, or ask another question.
